This is a massive book. Although there are certainly longer books out there (this one weighs in at pages long enough for me!), this book is massive in its attempt- to provide a sweeping and comprehensive presentation of the paradigm shifts that the churchs self-understanding of its missionary dimension has undergone throughout church history/5. Christianity - Christianity - Christian doctrine: Indirectly or directly, Jesus and his Apostles left their principal—though perhaps not their only—records in the writings of the New Testament, the canonical texts that form the second part of the Christian Bible, which also includes the Hebrew Scriptures, or (in the Christian view) the Old Testament.

Servant v-p and editorial director Bert Ghezzi told PW that the state of the economy was a key factor in the publisher's decision to sell its assets. "We were struggling to make our sales goals.   James C. Hunter’s book The Servant is an exceptional lesson in leadership wrapped in a narrative that is entertaining and easy to read. Hunter subtitles his book “A simple story about the true essence of leadership” and I believe that this is an apt description, but the text offers so much more.

I have in my library a book by the spiritual father of a quasi-Christian cult. It argues that structured doctrine and systematized theology are contrary to the spirit of Jesus' ministry.

The idea that Christ is anti-doctrine is a foundational belief of that cult. The answer is no. The doctrine of nonaccumulation is not a new doctrine at all, not by any stretch of the imagination. It is a doctrine as old as Christianity itself.

However, it is a doctrine that has been lost to most of today’s Christians, including those who would call themselves conservative. The Didache is considered part of the group of second-generation Christian writings known as the Apostolic Fathers. The work was considered by some Church Fathers to be a part of the New Testament, [6] [7] [8] while being rejected by others as spurious or non-canonical, [9] [10] [11] In the end, it was not accepted into the New Testament canon.

The Greek word is diakoneo dee-ak-on-eh'-o – found in the Bible 37 times, translated servant, serve, deacon or minister. When it uses the word ‘minister,’ it is not talking about an ordained pastor. It means: to be a servant, attendant, wait upon. It is used to describe a minister, one that waits onFile Size: KB.

With clear writingtechnical terms kept to a minimumand a contemporary approach, emphasizing how each doctrine should be understood and applied by present-day Christians, Making Sense of Salvation explores God's common grace to redeem those who will be saved, and to demonstrate his goodness, mercy, justice, and glory.5/5(1).

WHAT IS SERVANT-LEADERSHIP. There are two components of servant-leadership. The first is that of being a servant. The second is being a leader. “Servant” defines the timeless, changeless style and attitude that must be present in our lives.

“Leadership” defines the responsibility. As believers we are all called to be servants. Of the primitive Christians it is said, "They continued steadfastly [1] in the Apostles' doctrine, and [2] fellowship, and [3] in breaking of bread, and [4] in prayers" (Acts ), which at once indicates that they esteemed soundness in the Faith as of first importance, and were of a radically different spirit from those who are so indifferent.

Wilhelmus à Brakel's The Christian's Reasonable Service is a tremendously insightful work that showcases the marriage between scholastic precision and a warm pastoral piety. À Brakel not only challenges the mind as he plumbs the depths of the teachings of Scripture, but he also challenges the heart as readers must grapple with the truth and its implications for their growth in grace/5(7).

Reasons for Unitarianism ; or, the primitive Christian doctrine. Addressed to the serious consideration of the inhabitants of the diocese of St. David's. With a preface and an appendix By a Welsh Freeholder. James C. Hunter, The Servant: A Simple Story about the True Essence of Leadership ——————– The simple truths, told in simple stories, are clear, and hard to escape.

I recently presented a synopsis of this servant leadership classic, The Servant, by James C. Hunter. I vaguely remember reading it years ago, and now have read it. Question: "What does the Bible say about being a servant / servanthood?" Answer: The Bible has a great deal to say about servanthood because the central theme of the Bible is the Servant of all—Jesus Christ.

An Essay on the Development of Christian Doctrine. After a long struggle against liberal tendencies in the Church of England and an unsuccessful attempt to establish the position of Anglicanism as a branch of historical Christianity whose doctrines could be proven to be identical with those of the primitive Church, John Henry Newman came to the painful realization that he could no longer remain a member of the Anglican Church.

Servant leadership has gained currency among Christians of various persuasions. Multiple books have been written on biblical principles of servant leadership.
